FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Steve Beshear says he intends to "very aggressively" push for a constitutional amendment in the upcoming legislative session to legalize additional forms of gambling, which could potentially include slot machines and other casino-style games.
Kentucky has a long history of betting on horse races but doesn't allow casino-style gambling.
Beshear, speaking to reporters on Wednesday, said he wants voters to decide whether to expand gambling beyond horse races, lotteries and charitable bingo games.
He said a proposed constitutional amendment is being drafted and will be introduced in the state Senate within the first week of the legislative session that begins on Jan. 3.
