WASHINGTON (AP) - You saw him in some of the early Democratic presidential debates -- but Mike Gravel (gruh-VEHL') is no longer a Democrat.
The man who launched a long-shot bid for the Democratic nomination this year says he's leaving the party to join the Libertarian Party.
The former Alaska senator told supporters in an e-mail that the Democrats no longer represent what he calls his "vision for our great country."
He says the Democratic party "continues to sustain war, the military-industrial complex and imperialism."
Gravel says he looks forward to continuing his candidacy within the Libertarian Party, which he says is closer to his values and his views on domestic and foreign policy.
