Hearing Officer Finds No Fault Against Former Commissioner

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A hearing officer is recommending the dismissal of an ethics charge against former state Highway Commissioner Marc Williams.

Williams was accused last year of trying to steer a design contract for a bridge to a particular engineering firm. But state hearing officer Ann Sheadel said she believes Williams did nothing wrong after hearing testimony and reviewing evidence in the case.

Sheadel said that the only witness who implicated Williams in the scheme is not credible. Her recommendation goes to the state Ethics Commission for a final decision.
