LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes has officially kicked off her campaign for U.S. Senate.
Grimes is seeking the Democratic nomination in the 2014 U.S. Senate race.
Hundreds of people attended the campaign kickoff Tuesday night at the Carrick House in Lexington, including Governor Steve Beshear and other Kentucky Democratic leaders.
The event also included a videotaped message from former President Bill Clinton.
Republican Senator Mitch McConnell is seeking re-election for his seat.
On Tuesday night, Grimes asked Kentucky voters to switch from McConnell's team to hers.
"I will fight to keep our jobs here in the state, and work to end the tax breaks that are sending our Kentucky jobs overseas," Grimes said. "That's what a Kentucky senator should be fighting for."
Both Grimes and McConnell say they'll be at the annual Fancy Farm picnic, which will be Saturday in Graves County.
