Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear is starting the general election campaign with a sizable fundraising lead over Republican challenger David Williams. But Williams' campaign says it will have plenty of cash to run an aggressive race.
Beshear had $485,969 on hand in his primary election account
after shifting $2.25 million to his general election committee.
That gives the governor at least $2.7 million at his disposal in
his race against Williams.
Williams' campaign reports having $89,363 on hand in its primary
account. But Williams' campaign took in more than $500,000 for its
general election account at a big fundraiser last month.
Williams campaign manager Luke Marchant says the campaign is
raising money for a strong media blitz.
Beshear's campaign manager, Bill Hyers, says the fundraising
shows support for the governor's policies.
