Incumbent U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler has claimed victory in the Sixth District Congressional race, but his challenger says he's not giving up yet.

Chandler, a Democrat, declared a win around 10:30 Tuesday night, but his challenger, Republican Andy Barr, said just moments later that the race is simply too close to call.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Chandler led Barr by exactly 600 votes. Chandler had 119,845 votes, or 50.1 percent of the vote, to Barr's 119,245 votes, or 49.8 percent.

Barr says he will continue fighting for the seat Wednesday.

In a statement Wednesday morning, Barr said, "Something as important as reforming Congress merits working to make sure that every last vote is carefully counted and the people of the Sixth District are heard. This race is not over.”

Republicans across the country have a close eye on the seat, hoping to pick it up. Chandler has been the Sixth District representative since 2004.

The Sixth District covers all or part of 16 central Kentucky counties.
