LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Democrat Jack Conway's campaign is
accusing Republican opponent Rand Paul of a "political hoax" by
touting his long affiliation with an anti-tax group that officially
existed for only a year.
Paul has pointed to his leadership role with the nonprofit
Kentucky Taxpayers United in promoting his conservative credentials
as an advocate for low taxes and restrained government spending.
Conway campaign spokesman John Collins said Friday that Paul
portrayed the group as being active long after it was dissolved.
Collins says Paul has been misleading voters to pad his own
Paul campaign spokesman Gary Howard said in a statement that
Kentucky Taxpayers United was was a "vibrant and effective
grassroots" effort that focused on "defending taxpayers and
holding elected officials accountable."
