FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A proposal that could open the door to industrial hemp farming in Kentucky is scheduled for a vote in the House Agriculture and Small Business Committee later this week.

Chairman Tom McKee, a Democrat from Cynthiana, said Monday that he expects the measure to pass and that he intends to vote for it himself. The meeting is set for 8 a.m. EST Wednesday.

The measure received a hearing but no vote last week.

McKee had proposed rewriting the bill that's intended to put Kentucky is position to license hemp if ever the federal government lifts restrictions on growing it.

State police, along with other law enforcement agencies, have raised concerns about hemp fields being used to camouflage marijuana, which has identical leaves.
