Louisville newspaper endorses President Obama for 2nd term

Updated: Mon 4:52 PM, Nov 05, 2012

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky's largest newspaper, The Courier-Journal in Louisville, has endorsed President Barack Obama for a second term.

The newspaper's editorial board said in its endorsement published Sunday (http://cjky.it/SIICej ) that President Obama "has helped steer the nation from the brink of a major depression, extricated it from one unpopular war and imposed a deadline for another."

The newspaper said the president's health care reforms were crucial and credited him with helping save the U.S. auto industry.

The paper said Obama's efforts to improve the economy have been hampered by Republicans in Congress.

The Lexington Herald Leader also endorsed Obama for re-election, but Obama remains an unpopular political figure in Kentucky and fared poorly in the state in 2008.
