Transy faculty votes no confidence in school head

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky newspaper is reporting that Transylvania University faculty passed an overwhelming vote of no confidence in President Owen Williams.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reported that Friday's vote was 68 to 7 concerning the ability of Williams to continue to serve as school president. The paper cited documents it obtained.

The faculty also voted to retroactively grant tenure to two faculty members whose tenure was deferred by Williams. That decision by Williams in March sparked a conflict between the president, faculty and students that included an April 5 protest by students demanding better communication.

Neither faculty representatives nor Transylvania officials were immediately available for comment on Tuesday morning.

Williams came to Transylvania in 2011 after careers as a Wall Street banker and a Civil War scholar at Yale.
