U.S. Senate candidates cast votes, now await decision from voters

It's one of the most watched races in the country, and it's gotten nasty.

Today, it all comes to a head, with voters getting the final say on whether it will be Democrat Jack Conway or Republican Rand Paul winning one of Kentucky's U.S. Senate seats.

Both Conway and Paul are wrapping up their campaign efforts with one more push to the poll.

Conway voted Tuesday morning in Louisville, before heading to Lexington to thank volunteers at a phone bank.

Conway said despite polls showing him lagging behind his opponent, he is optimistic.

"I'm excited. We're hearing reports of a heavy turnout so far," Conway said. "I know when I got my ballot this morning, there was no place to go. I had to wait in line to fill it out. That's good. A heavy turnout favors us."

Conway will wrap up the day in Louisville at the Marriott, where he'll be joined by family and friends.

Meanwhile, Rand Paul is planning to spend the afternoon in Bowling Green with his family.

He voted at Briarwood Elementary School in Bowling Green Tuesday morning, with his wife, Kelly.

He was greeted with the intense media attention he's become accustomed to in the last days of this campaign.

Before he voted, Paul says he went on a bike ride.

Paul says he's confident.

"If I win today, very shortly after we will be calling some of the new folks, getting together," Paul said. "Really, this is about us changing Washington and not Washington changing us. There have been already talks if Washington will be changing these new people or will they change Washington. My goal is get the message out that Washington is broken and we have to do something to fix Washington."

Paul will watch election returns at the Bowling Green Convention Center.

Both candidates concede it's been a long, hard fought campaign season.

Both also remain confident that their message is the right one for Kentucky.
