Low voter turnout reported for primary election

Kentucky Elections officials are reporting low voter turnout so far for today's primary election.

The Secretary of State's office reports as of late morning, there had been no major issues at the polls.

The results of the primary will determine which Republican candidates will face off against Gov. Steve Beshear in the governor's race in the fall.

Other offices on the ballot are secretary of state, state treasurer, auditor and commissioner of agriculture.

Statewide voter turnout is only expected to be around 9-percent, which could come close to the record low of 8.6 percent in 1999.

Fayette County Clerk Don Blevins expects a 10-percent voter turnout in Lexington.

Polls will close at 6 p.m. today.
