LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning has barred The Courier-Journal's political writer from weekly telephone briefings with Kentucky reporters.
Bunning holds the briefings each Tuesday morning to discuss legislative issues.
Bunning spokesman Mike Reynard called Joseph Gerth "a biased
reporter," says Gerth "has a political agenda," and said Bunning's office does not need to include him on the call.
In a story published Thursday, Courier-Journal Managing Editor Ben Post said the newspaper objects to Bunning's decision. He said Gerth has been fair in his reporting about Bunning.
Reynard notes that The Courier-Journal's Washington-based reporter, James R. Carroll, already participates in the weekly calls.
