A Rockcastle County woman is trying to find a home for two puppies she says were left for dead.

According to Jessica Lawrence, the two puppies that were at the county animal shelter; had been bagged, and placed in a freezer with euthanized dogs whose bodies were headed for the incinerator.

But the woman says her fiance, who works for a crew who was going to throw the bags away heard the puppies crying.

The next day Lawrence went to the shelter to get the dogs. She's keeping them safe, until she finds a good home for them.

The animal lover says she would keep the beagle mix puppies if she could, but she already has several other pets.

Excellent points, Theresa. "Oh gee," the "owner" said, "I didn't know they would do that." Shame on her. And to just dump them in the condition they were in...what did she do to ensure those dogs' well-being? Not a (edited) thing. She let her dog get pregnant, then dumped the results. Bet the female will get bred again & again, and we're supposed to feel sorry for irresponsible "owners" who let all of this happen? Not me. SPAY/NEUTER your pets (and weird relatives).

Stephanie Personally I think your firend should be ashamed of herself for not spaying and like many people thinking that animals are disposable. There are approx. 6-8 MILLION dogs and cats killed every year in local shelters all across America. No all are humanely treated which is disgusting. And to those few people (I use the term loosly) shame on you.

What everyone needs to understand is that when you bring your pet to a shelter it is what considered an owner turn-in and it can be euthanized immedately upon arrival once released to that shelter and more times than not it is euthanized. I do pet fostering from shelters all over the state and the shelters are all overrun with pets that people choose to take to the shelter and discard like yesterday's trash. The fact that the puppies were inundated with fleas, ticks and lice indicate to me that the pups were not taken care of prior to the arrival at the shelter. These type of pests don't get on the pups at the shelter, they come in that way. This is no excuse for the mistake that occured at the shelter. Workers need to be more mindful of the living beings that they are in charge of and those they kill daily, and they should pay attention to those that they don't kill. To avoid this in the future have your cats and dogs spayed and neutered they are your responsibility not a shelters

The sad thing is I know the person that took those puppies there. This has really upset her, she never dreamed that anything like this would have happend, or she wouldnt have taken them there. I did a little looking into this and found out that not very many animals make it out of that place alive. That place needs to be shut down, and the person that is responsible for this needs to be punished to the max. How could this have happend? People who say things like it was just a dog... until you own a pet, and have a bond with a dog you have no idea how much something like this hurts thoes of us who love animals.

Lighten up lady; just because someone makes a joke doesn't mean they don't have a heart. The puppies are okay - they are not dead, so all is well. At least Monty Python didn't say the other part from the movie he was quoting which is "bring out your dead." Get a grip woman!

this breaks my heart to think this cold happen I just wonder how many this has happened too thanks to the young lady that took them babies I hope and pray she finds them forever loving homes. God Bless You :)

Well puppies do look sortof like dead. Well some of them do. Some puppies look like cats.

This is a really bizarre story! Live puppies mistakenly put in a freezer with other dead animals? How did something like this happen? It's a wonder they've survived the whole ordeal! I'm really hoping it was an accident and was the first (and last) time it's happened. I hope the poor little puppies find a good loving home.
