Lexington passes sidewalk plan

Lexington neighbors are fighting about whether Tates Creek Road should get a sidewalk. The Urban County Council settled the feud Thursday by an 11 to 4 vote.

The stretch of land on Tates Creek Road from Dove Run to just before Euclid has no consistent sidewalk. Some argue this makes it a dangerous place for pedestrians.

So when it was proposed to build a sidewalk there, many rejoiced;but others were worried building a sidewalk would mean cutting down trees. Now neighbors are posting signs in their yards against the sidewalk, and others are protesting in favor.

A grant from the state highway department will provide roughly 80% of the cost of the work. The city will do a complete study on the project before construction begins.
