Kentucky student killed in shootout

A Kentucky college student has been killed after a shootout with police following a bank robbery.

Police in Gallatin, Tennessee say one of two people killed, after a man dressed as a leprechaun robbed a bank, was a student at Western Kentucky University.
20-year-old Jonathan Ryan Skinner was a junior at WKU in Bowling Green. Both Skinner and his friend, 20-year-old Christopher David Cotton died Wednesday after a St. Patrick's Day bank robbery. The two are both from the Brentwood, Tennessee area.

Authorities say Cotton robbed the First State Bank in Gallatin, Tennessee and Skinner stood by in a getaway car. A police chase ensued in which the young men fired at police. The pursuit eventually ended up on foot. Police say Cotton took his own life as officers closed in. They say Skinner was shot and killed after picking up the gun Cotton used to take his own life.

Skinner was a meteorology major at WKU.

Police say Christopher Cotton posed as Santa Slaus in another robbery in the Gallatin area last December.
