Flu season off to earliest start in nearly a decade

ATLANTA, Ga. (WKYT) - The flu bug is starting to pack more bite in Kentucky, according to the Centers for Disease Control which says the flu season is off to its earliest start in nearly a decade.

According to this week's FluView, flu activity in the United States is continuing to increase throughout the nation and Kentucky's status increased to regional.

Overall, influenza viruses are being detected more widely in the United States. Eight states reported widespread influenza activity (Alabama, Alaska, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island and South Carolina). This is twice the number of states that reported widespread influenza activity last week.

Regional influenza activity was reported by 15 states, including Kentucky. Fifteen other states reported local influenza activity.
