LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A fun night for some UK fans took a tragic turn. A woman is now talking about her husband's injury at Rupp Arena that's now left him paralyzed.

We've been telling you about Dickie Gregory's injuries in recent days. He fell during the exhibition game between UK and Transylvania.

It's been nearly two weeks now and that UK fan is still recovering at UK Hospital surrounded by not only his family but the Big Blue Nation. The irony is it had been a while since Mary Alice Gregory and her husband were at Rupp Arena.

"Back in the 90s," said Mary Alice Gregory, the fall victim's wife. "That long, that long ago."

UK versus Transylvania was a game they were excited about seeing but never did.

"It was traumatic for everyone who saw it," said Mary Alice.

That fall left Dickie Gregory, 73, paralyzed from the neck down.

"We had just arrived, and I was stepping up to get to my seat. And my legs just gave way on me, and I don't know what happened with him. I don't know," said Mary Alice. "But he fell trying to help support me."

She says she can't help but feel guilty.

"It's something that flashes in front of my eyes all the time," said Mary Alice.

But they've gotten through, and she'd like to thank the Big Blue Nation for that.

"We're very appreciative of all of their love and support and their prayers," said Mary Alice. "We're still grieving over the tragedy of it and the loss of his life as far as we know it."

The Gregory couple has been together for 51 years. They were looking forward to continuing to enjoy retirement at their lake house, which will be much different now.

His wife also tells us that he will be moving to Frazier Rehab Institute in Louisville on Thursday.
