KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - Taliban attacks and NATO raids are being reported in southern Afghanistan.
Afghan authorities say insurgents broke into the home of an official in Zabul province, killing him and his wife. It's the latest targeted attack on those with links to the government or international forces.
In Helmand province, a joint coalition-Afghan force raided a compound used by the Taliban as a prison. A provincial official says 27 Afghan civilians were freed and 13 Taliban fighters killed. Five captives had been slain before the force arrived.
In Kandahar, NATO says a civilian was killed in a fire fight after insurgents attacked coalition forces. And in a separate incident, a joint force killed 10 insurgents while pursuing a Taliban commander responsible for arranging weapons deliveries.
Meanwhile, in eastern Afghanistan, demonstrators blocked a main highway to protest two deaths in a nighttime raid. The protesters said the two men were innocent civilians. NATO says its forces killed two insurgents while pursuing a bomb-making expert.
