Jimmy Carter arrives in Pyongyang

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - Former President Jimmy Carter is in North Korea, on a mission U.S. officials say is aimed at bringing home an imprisoned American.

North Korea's official news agency says Carter and his party were greeted at Pyongyang airport by the top North Korean nuclear envoy.

U.S. officials said Monday that Carter would make a trip to North Korea to win the freedom of an American citizen who was sentenced to eight years in prison for entering the communist country illegally in January.
