KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - NATO says a joint force of U.S., French and Afghan troops has wrapped a weeklong offensive against insurgents northeast of Kabul.
The effort killed about 40 Taliban fighters and captured several key Taliban operatives.
Another three insurgents were killed in an eastern province as Afghan and coalition forces were pursuing a Taliban sub-commander. That leader wasn't captured, but the coalition says it nabbed two key operatives with ties to al-Qaida.
NATO also says forces are chasing a militant affiliated with several groups, including al-Qaida and the Taliban.
The report comes on a day when three U.S. troops were killed by homemade bombs in southern and eastern Afghanistan.
An Associated Press count shows 55 foreign troops have been killed this month, including 35 Americans.
