Announcement on Emanuel departure expected today

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is expected to officially announce today that his chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, will be resigning so that he can run for Chicago mayor.

Emanuel is expected to be temporarily replaced by Pete Rouse, a senior adviser to Obama.

Emanuel's departure comes during a wider personnel reorganization and just ahead of the Nov. 2 midterm elections. Rouse is a leading choice to become the permanent chief of staff.
