WASHINGTON (AP) - The top Republican in the Senate is accusing President Barack Obama and Democrats of "deliberate deception" of the public during the ongoing negotiations to cut government spending and increase the nation's debt limit.
In a harshly worded speech on the Senate floor Tuesday, Kentucky
Sen. Mitch McConnell said the president presented Republicans with
three choices: smoke and mirrors, tax increases, or default.
McConnell says Republicans refused to play along.
Despite his strong language, McConnell says Republicans will
ensure that the government does not default on its obligations. His
statement comes after another round of bipartisan meetings failed
to reach a breakthrough.
