SEASIDE PARK, N.J. (AP) - Dawn is revealing the extent of the damage from a wind-whipped fire that devoured a boardwalk in two Jersey shore resort towns yesterday.
Smoke is still rising from the ruins of more than 50 businesses as firefighters in Seaside Park and Seaside Heights continue pouring water on hot spots.
Investigators on Friday will begin the task of trying to determine what sparked the blaze near a frozen custard stand in Seaside Park on Thursday. There was no word of any major injuries.
Firefighters literally drew a line in the sand and created a fire break to prevent the flames from spreading deep into Seaside Heights.
Officials also will begin to calculate the loss.
