Ahmadinejad: Iran tests new missile

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iran's president says his country has
test-fired a new advanced missile.
The announcement from Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
(ah-muh-DEE'-neh-zhahd) comes just two days after President Barack
Obama declared he was ready to seek deeper international sanctions
against Iran if it rejected U.S. attempts to open negotiations on
its nuclear program.
The solid-fuel surface-to-surface missile has a range of 1,200
miles -- far enough to strike Israel and southeastern Europe. It's
a new version of one that Iran said it had successfully tested late
last year.
