Obama, Abbas to meet today

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama meets with Palestinian
President Mahmoud Abbas today as he continues talks with Mideast
leaders.
Last week, Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu stopped in. Today, Abbas
will sit down in the Oval Office for talks expected to focus on
Israeli settlements.
Abbas has said Palestinians will not resume peace talks with
Israel without an unambiguous halt to further settlement
construction -- a freeze the president backs but Netanyahu's
resisted.
Top Palestinian officials traveling with Abbas say he's working
to repackage a 2002 Saudi Arabian plan that called for Israel to
exchange Arab land it occupied in the 1967 war for normalized
relations with Arab countries.
