Supreme court nominees pays Senate courtesy calls

WASHINGTON (AP) - Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor comes calling on Capitol Hill today, paying
traditional courtesy calls on top lawmakers, starting with Senate
Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Her first round of meetings with senators comes a week after she
was nominated.
Sotomayor will also meet with Senate Minority Leader Mitch
McConnell who has reiterated Republican desires for confirmation
hearings to start later rather than sooner.
Democrats, however, would like to confirm Judge Sotomayor before
the Senate's August break.
The meeting with Senate leaders will be followed by
get-togethers with the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Patrick
Leahy of Vermont and the top Republican, Jeff Sessions.
