SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - A senior American diplomat is warning
North Korea that it's on the wrong path.
Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg says North Korea must
"reverse its course on its nuclear program" and rejoin
Steinberg made his comments at the beginning of talks with South
Korea's vice foreign minister.
The North's underground nuclear test, barrage of short-range
missiles and preparations for a long-range missile launch have
increased tensions on the peninsula.
Steinberg says he and a team of high-ranking officials are in
Asia to send a clear message to North Korea that the U.S. and its
allies stand united on the need for nuclear disarmament.
Meanwhile, China's official Xinhua News Agency reports President
Barack Obama discussed the nuclear crisis with Chinese President Hu
Jintao in a phone call early today.
