Police: 16 Taliban killed in battle

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) - Authorities in Afghanistan say
international and Afghan forces have killed 16 Taliban militants.
They say a police officer also died in the southern Afghanistan
clashes.
NATO forces confirm the fighting, but report a lower death
count. They say only five people were killed, all of them
militants.
In addition, there's word that NATO and Afghan forces arrested
an armed militant. They also captured a handful of guns and four
motorbikes.
Meanwhile, a university student in the capital of neighboring
Kandahar province was found dead with his throat cut this morning
in a side room of a mosque where he had gone to study.
