BANGKOK (AP) - Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says Iran should think carefully about its nuclear ambitions.
Clinton is on her second trip to Asia as the chief U.S. diplomat.
Appearing on Thai TV, Clinton says the U.S. has a plan to prevent Iranian domination in the Middle East if it gets the nuclear bomb.
She says it's unlikely Iran would be stronger or safer "if the United States extends a defense umbrella over the region." She says the U.S. could do even more to develop the military capacity of allies in the Gulf.
Clinton is trying to send a clear message during her Asian trip that the administration wants to show that the United States is not distracted by its wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and intends to broaden and deepen its Asian partnerships.
