SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - North Korea has announced it's in the final stages of enriching uranium.
Experts have long suspected that the North has a hidden uranium enrichment program.
The process could give the communist regime a second way to make nuclear bombs, in addition to its plutonium-enrichment program.
The official Korean Central News Agency says North Korea has informed the U.N. Security Council that it's pushing on with its nuclear programs despite international calls to halt them.
North Korea calls that decision a reaction to the Security Council's efforts to tighten sanctions against the regime. The U.N. efforts came after the North tested a nuclear bomb in May.
The report adds that the plutonium "is being weaponized."
