2nd round of US-Israeli talks over; no progress

JERUSALEM (AP) - Washington's special envoy to the Mideast and Israel's prime minister will meet Friday for the third time this week after making no progress on the sticky issue of West Bank settlements.

A second round of talks today didn't produce any compromises.

U.S. official George Mitchell and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met for two hours today.

Mitchell is in the region for a last-ditch attempt to extract an Israeli compromise on the settlement construction that is palatable to the U.S. and the Palestinians.
