Obama meets with Canadian prime minister

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is taking part in both public and private events on Wednesday.

In the morning, he's conducting a one-on-one session with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The two will also hold an expanded meeting in the Oval Office.

Later, the president meets separately with Defense Secretary Robert Gates and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

In the early afternoon, the president and the first lady host an event featuring U.S. Olympians, Paralympians and local schoolchildren. The salute to service, healthy living and youth sport also includes representatives from the Chicago 2016 campaign to bring the Summer Olympics to the Windy City.

Obama caps off the day with a speech at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute's annual black-tie awards gala.
