Lockerbie bomber releases docs, vows to clear name

LONDON (AP) - The only man convicted in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing has released a sheaf of documents he hopes will help clear his name.

Abdel Baset al-Megrahi says he hopes the 353 pages of legal argument posted to the Internet will help persuade the public that he is innocent of the attack on Pan Am Flight 103, which killed 270 people.

Al-Megrahi was convicted by a special-convened Scottish court in The Netherlands in 2001. Al-Megrahi appealed the conviction after a legal review commission found evidence of a possible miscarriage of justice.

The documents posted online Friday were prepared by al-Megrahi's Scottish law firm for the second appeal, which was abandoned shortly before al-Megrahi was released from prison on compassionate grounds last month.
