Iranian Foreign Minister accuses US in nuke scientist disappearance

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iranian TV says the foreign minister has claimed that the United States may have been involved in the disappearance of an Iranian nuclear scientist in Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki says Iran "has evidence to suggest" that the United States had a role in the disappearance, according to state-run Press TV.

The scientist, Shahram Amiri, vanished in late May while on a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, and despite repeated Iranian requests, the kingdom has not given any information on his whereabouts, according to past statements by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Amiri works as a physicist researching medical uses of nuclear technology at a university in Tehran, the semiofficial ISNA news agency has reported.
