Holder: Don't fear trial of 'coward' 9/11 plotter

WASHINGTON (AP) - Attorney General Eric Holder is telling critics not to cower at the prospect of a New York trial for professed Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

Holder is scheduled to testify Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee, where lawmakers are set to spar over the attorney general's decision last week to send Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four alleged henchmen from a detention center at Guantanamo Bay to New York to face a civilian federal trial.

In prepared testimony obtained by The Associated Press, Holder says he isn't afraid of Mohammed, and the nation's court system and security precautions are strong enough to handle such a high-profile terrorism trial.

Reaction to the planned trial has fallen along mostly partisan lines.
