Afghan blast kills 4 children, wounds US soldiers

KABUL (AP) - It's been another deadly day in Afghanistan, where officials now say four children and a policeman died in an explosion at a U.S.-funded road project.

The health department chief also says 81 people, most of them schoolchildren, were injured. That number includes at least three American soldiers. NATO says nine of its troops were hurt, but it didn't specify their nationalities.

The children, on their way home from school, were gathered around the soldiers who were visiting the project.

The Afghan Interior Ministry called the blast a terrorist act. It was set off when a passing police vehicle hit a mine.

In another attack, four Afghan policeman were killed when a remote-controlled bomb blew up their vehicle. And, at least 15 people were injured in an explosion at a market.
