Deadly earthquake shakes eastern Turkey

OKCULAR, Turkey (AP) - Seismologists say there have been more than 50 aftershocks following a magnitude 6 earthquake in eastern Turkey.

Nearly 60 people were killed and another 100 were injured.

In the hardest hit village of Okcular (AHK'-joo-lahr), local authorities say homes were crumbled into piles of dirt.

Officials say a village near the epicenter "is totally flattened."

Some of the injuries occurred during the panic, when people jumped from windows or balconies.
