NKorea warns UN to handle ship sinking impartially

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - North Korea says the U.N. Security Council must take an impartial approach to handling the deadly sinking of a South Korean warship.

The March 26 torpedoing and sinking of the warship near the tense sea border killed 46 South Korean sailors.

At a rare news conference in New York yesterday, North Korea's U.N. ambassador said its military will respond if the world body questions or condemns North Korea over the sinking. Sin Son Ho repeated his regime's position that it had nothing to do with the sinking.

In a commentary today in North Korea's main newspaper, Sin repeated his position, and said any ongoing tension over the incident could trigger nuclear war. The paper said tension is running so high on the peninsula that anyaccidental incident could trigger an all-out conflict.
