What's the best beach in the U.S.?
The Florida professor known as Dr. Beach has come out with his 2012 survey, and he says it's Coronado Beach in California, across the bay from San Diego.
Prof. Stephen Leatherman of Florida International University bases the ranking on environmental quality and safety for swimmers.
And Leatherman says Coronado's near-perfect Mediterranean weather and a postcard backdrop makes it "one of the most super beaches around."
The next top two beaches are Kahanamoku Beach in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii and Main Beach in East Hampton, N.Y.
