Cameron denies staff tried to halt hacking probe

LONDON (AP) - British Prime Minister David Cameron is denying claims that his staff tried to stop an investigation into phone hacking at the News of the World.
Cameron is also defending his decision to hire Andy Coulson, a former editor at the now-closed tabloid, as his communications chief. Coulson is among 10 people who've been arrested in the scandal. One has been cleared.
The prime minister says that in hindsight, he shouldn't have hired Coulson, but he says he believes in "innocent until proven guilty."
Some lawmakers have accused people on Cameron's staff of trying to pressure police to drop the investigation into the hacking.
Cameron is promising lawmakers that a government inquiry will look at the cozy relationship between British politicians and media.
