ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - The trial of a central Florida mother charged with killing her 2-year-old daughter has resumed, with the judge saying she's mentally competent to continue.
It began Monday with the trial judge saying attorneys had asked that Casey Anthony be examined for mental competency to proceed in the trial.
Witnesses had been expected to testify all day Saturday but the judge said a "legal matter" had come up after meeting with lawyers from both sides. Court was adjourned until Monday.
Anthony has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and could face the death penalty if convicted of that charge. Her defense attorneys claim her daughter Caylee Anthony accidentally drowned in the family's swimming pool.
