SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - A California prosecutor says a 23-year-old Iraq War veteran charged with murdering four homeless men had selected additional victims.
Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas told a news conference Tuesday that former Marine Itzcoatl (its-KWAH-tel) Ocampo chose the final victim because he appeared in a news article about police warning homeless men to be careful.
The district attorney says all four victims were stalked and the killer looked for the right opportunity to execute them.
At least three of the victims were stabbed more than 40 times.
The deaths occurred between late December and last Friday, when witnesses to the latest killing gave chase and a police officer arrested Ocampo.
