First Derby contender arrives at Churchill Downs

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The first major Kentucky Derby contender has arrived in Louisville.

Churchill Downs says Spiral Stakes winner Black Onyx arrived at the track Wednesday and is settling into stall 12 of Barn 31 in the backside.

The colt is trained by Kelly Breen and owned by Sterling Racing.

Under a new point-eligibility system Churchill Downs is using for the Kentucky Derby, the track says Black Onyx is likely to be assured a spot in the starting gate May 4.
