Fla. town somberly absorbs Zimmerman verdict

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) - Some black residents of Sanford, Fla., see the acquittal of George Zimmerman as the latest blow to race relations in the town.

The community of almost 50,000 people is where Trayvon Martin was shot. Some residents say that while relations between black and white have improved over the years, progress has been slow and the case demonstrated problems remain.

James Tillman, who is black, said Saturday's verdict just adds to his mistrust of local authorities, who have been criticized over the years for their handling of other crimes against blacks.
