WINCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT) - The battle against wildfires in the West is getting some help from Kentucky.
On Sunday, the Kentucky Interagency Coordination Center mobilized two fire crews to assist with firefighting efforts in the western United States.
The two Kentucky crews traveled to Knoxville where they were joined by three firefighting crews from Virginia.
All five crews will initially report for duty in Redmond, Oregon. From there, the firefighters will be assigned to various wildfire locations.
One of the Kentucky crews consists of 20 firefighters from the Kentucky Division of Forestry. The other crew is made up of 20 federal agency firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service.
