Oscar-nominated documentarian killed in Libya

MISRATA, Libya (AP) - A war photographer and film director who was nominated for an Oscar for a documentary about the war in Afghanistan has been killed in Libya.
A publicist says Tim Hetherington was killed today in the city of Misrata while covering battles there between rebels and Libyan government forces. A doctor in Misrata says three other photographers were seriously injured, including a New York-based photographer for the Getty agency.
The city has come under weeks of relentless shelling by government troops.
Hetherington, who was born in Britain, was an Oscar nominee as co-director of the documentary "Restrepo." It focused on U.S. soldiers at an outpost in Afghanistan. The film was co-directed by Sebastian Junger, author of "The Perfect Storm."
