Police search for person who stole firearms from officer

Lexington police are reaching out for help finding a person that stole firearms from their force.

The theft happened in the Masterson Station neighborhood last week, and without any arrests made yet, Bluegrass Crime Stoppers is now stepping in to offer up a reward. They say one of their undercover officers walked out to his unmarked car, and noticed a few items missing.

"He noticed that when he got in his trunk several items had been taken including two firearms which are police property as well as other police gear," explained Detective Nate Williams, "all the property was locked in the vehicle. We believe they used some kind of device to gain entry into the car."

Police are handling this case like any other theft, but they say the man behind it could have been targeting the police cruiser.

"We're focusing on several people of interest right now, and looking for the public's help to kinda further the investigation."

Bluegrass Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this theft. If you know who may be behind it, call (877) 970.2020.
