LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Kosair Charities and Children's Place will join multiple Louisville-area children's agencies in holding a rally to end child abuse at Louisville Slugger Field.
The rally is set for 10:30 a.m. EST Tuesday in Louisville and kicks off a 10-year campaign focused on ending child abuse in Kentucky.
According to the Child Welfare League of America, 18,332 children in Kentucky were victims of abuse or neglect in 2010, and 18 children died as a result of abuse or neglect in 2011.
Scheduled speakers include Family & Children's Place CEO Dan Fox, state Sen. Julie Denton and Dr. Melissa Currie, chief of the University of Louisville's Kosair Charities Division of Pediatric Forensic Medicine.
Throughout the duration of the 2013-2022 program, a new child abuse awareness initiative will be introduced annually.
