Stocks inch higher, helped by strong jobs report

NEW YORK (AP) - Stocks are opening with slight gains after a strong jobs report in October gave investors another reason to be hopeful about the economy.

The gains early Friday put the Dow Jones industrial average on track to extend a five-day rally that brought it back to a level last seen in early September 2008, just before the peak of the financial crisis.

Stocks jumped this week as the Federal Reserve announced a $600 billion economic stimulus plan.
